Enjoy the holiday season with this classic homemade eggnog recipe! It's a rich and creamy delight, perfect for sipping by the fire. Made with fresh eggs, milk, cream, and a hint of nutmeg, it's a festive treat.

Optional bourbon or rum adds warmth, or keep it non-alcoholic for everyone to enjoy. Easy to make and irresistibly delicious, it's the perfect addition to your holiday gatherings. Cheers to cozy, sweet moments!

Ingredients:

  • Ingredients:

    • 6 large eggs
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 2 cups whole milk
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1/2 cup bourbon or rum (optional)
    • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg, plus more for garnish
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Instructions:

    1. Beat Eggs and Sugar: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined and light in color.

    2. Heat Milk: In a saucepan, gently heat the milk over medium heat until it's warm but not boiling.

    3. Temper the Eggs: Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from cooking.

    4. Cook the Mixture: Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon (about 160-165°F). This process usually takes about 15-20 minutes.

    5. Add Flavor and Alcohol: Remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream, bourbon or rum (if using), nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Mix well.

    6. Chill: Pour the mixture into a pitcher or bowl, cover, and chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour.

    7. Serve: Once chilled, stir well and serve in cups or glasses garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top.

    Notes:

    • Non-Alcoholic Version: Simply omit the bourbon or rum for a family-friendly version.
    • Safety Tip: To avoid any risk from raw eggs, make sure the mixture reaches 160°F during cooking, which will pasteurize the eggs.
    • Customization: Adjust the amount of sugar, nutmeg, and alcohol to suit your taste preferences.
